When a compliance without pressure strategy fails due to a minority dissenter / Robert Vincent Joule (1988)
Titre : When a compliance without pressure strategy fails due to a minority dissenter : a case of 'behavioral conversion' Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Robert Vincent Joule, Auteur ; Gabriel Mugny, Auteur ; Juan Antonio Perez, Auteur Editeur : John Wiley & Sons Année de publication : 1988 Collection : European Journal of Social Psychology num. 18 Importance : p.531-535 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : [TABAC] sevrage tabagique:méthode de sevrage:méthode individuelle:approche psychologique:théorie de l'engagement
[TABAC] tabagisme:aspect socialIndex. décimale : TA 6.4.1 Tests psychologiques Résumé : While a strategy of compliance without pressure (Joule, 1987) had the effect of inducing almost all of a group of smoking subjects to stop smoking first for 18 hours then for 3 days, simply observing someone (an accomplice) break his or her own initial agreement to abstain from smoking for 18 hours was enough to bring about a substantial reduction in the willingness of other subjects to later abstain for 3 days. However, subjects did not follow the lead of the accomplice immediately, and persisted in their agreement to abstain for 18 hours. This pattern of indirect, but not direct influence, suggests that there may be a type of minority influence at work here that represents a sort of behavioral conversion. [TABAC] préventionIndex. décimale : TA 7.8.3 Ecoles – Entreprises Résumé : The importance of promoting and maintaining a healthy workforce is increasingly being recognised. Many organisations are already active in health promotion, particularly tobacco control. Existing systems include health-related policies, occupational health and health & safety departments, and a corporate culture and ethos that places importance on employee health and well-being. Workplace health promotion programmes should be a core element of the organisation's corporate ethos. This requires support at senior management level, with responsability for implementation shared among several individuals or departments.
to review the literature of women's use of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) during pregnancy. The review will examine NRT and nicotine, interventions and barriers to smoking cessation and the literature exploring women's views on using NRT in pregnancy.
METHOD:
a structured review of the literature was undertaken by accessing internet and library sources, restricted to English written articles between 1989 and 2003. Keywords were used to refine the search: pregnancy, smoking, NRT and smoking cessation.
FINDINGS:
several papers had examined interventions employed to aid pregnant women in smoking cessation and the efficacy of NRT. However, papers exploring the views of women on the use of NRT during pregnancy were limited.
CONCLUSIONS:
smoking cessation is unique to individual women; as such, appropriate support and advice should be tailored accordingly. Further research is needed to explore the views of women using NRT during pregnancy to aid smoking cessation.
IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE:
the findings from this structured review raise awareness of the importance of smoking cessation during pregnancy, and the inclusion of women's views when discussing the use of NRT. Understanding women's views may enhance the care and advice given by midwives, thus improving smoking cessation rates in pregnancy.Permalink : https://biblio.fares.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=7496 Exemplaires (1)
