[TABAC] chimie du tabac:tabac fumé:cigareIndex. décimale : TA 1.1.3 Cigares et cigarillos Résumé : Introduction:
lthough the popularity of small cigar brands that resemble cigarettes, including both little cigars (LC) and filtered cigars (FC), has been on the rise, little is known about the delivery
of nicotine from these products. Our objective was to determine the nicotine yields of small cigars in comparison to cigarettes.
Methods:
Nicotine yields from LC, FC, and 3R4F and 1R6F research cigarettes were determined from mainstream smoke generated on a smoking machine under the International Organization of
Standardization (ISO) and Canadian Intense (CI) methods. Market characteristics (price and package label) and physical features (filter ventilation, product weight and filter weight, product length, and diameter) were also determined for eight brands of small cigars.
Results:
Nicotine yields in small cigars averaged 1.24 and 3.49 mg/unit on ISO and CI regimens, respectively, compared with 0.73 and 2.35 mg/unit, respectively, for the research cigarettes.
Nicotine yields per puff were similar between small cigars and cigarettes. We also found that FC did not differ from LC in nicotine yields. FC and LC differ from each other in many physical design features (unit weight, filter weight, and filter length), but are similar in others (unit length, diameter,
and filter ventilation).
Conclusions:
Nicotine delivery from small cigars is similar to or greater than that from cigarettes. Thus, for future research and regulatory purposes, standard definitions need to be developed for
small cigars, and FC and LC should be evaluated as separate entities. Implications: Small cigars are similar to cigarettes in their design and use. Although nicotine yields
per puff were similar between products, small cigars delivered substantially higher amounts of nicotine per unit than cigarettes. These findings support the growing body of evidence to justify regulating all small cigars, including LC and FC in a similar fashion as cigarettesEn ligne : https://doi.org/10.1093/ntr/ntx220 Format de la ressource électronique : Article en ligne Permalink : https://biblio.fares.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=9707 Aucun avis, veuillez vous identifier pour ajouter le vôtre !

Therefore, promyelocytic HL-60 cells were differentiated into neutrophils using dimethylsulfoxide in the presence and absence of nicotine (3-(1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinyl) pyridine). Differentiation was evaluated over 5 days by monitoring terminal differentiation markers (CD11b expression and formazan deposition) cell viability, growth phase, kinetics, and apoptosis assessing cellular morphology and ultrastructure and conformational changes to major cellular components. Key neutrophil effector functions (oxidative burst, bacterial killing, matrix metalloproteinase release) were also examined. Conclusions: These findings may partially explain the known increase in susceptibility to bacterial infection and neutrophil-associated destructive inflammatory diseases in individuals chronically exposed to nicotine. This is, in part, due to the common opinion that they are “healthier” than tobacco cigarettes or simply “water vapour”. Third-hand e-vapour exposure is the chemical residue left behind from e-cigarette aerosols, which is of concern due to its invisible nature, especially among young children. However, there is limited information surrounding third-hand e-vapour exposure.
This study aimed to investigate the pulmonary effects of sub-chronic third-hand e-vapour exposure in a murine model. BALB/c mice (4 weeks of age) were exposed to a towel containing nicotine free (0 mg) e-vapour, nicotine (18 mg) e-vapour, or no e-vapour (sham) and replaced daily for 4 weeks. At the endpoint, lung function was assessed, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and lungs were collected to measure inflammation and fibrosis. Mice exposed to third-hand e-vapour without nicotine had alveolar enlargement compared to sham exposed controls. Mice exposed to third-hand e-vapour with nicotine had reduced bronchial responsiveness to provocation, increased epithelial thickening in large airways, increased epithelial layers in small airways, alveolar enlargement, and increased small airway collagen deposition, compared to sham exposed controls. In conclusion, our study shows that third-hand e-vapour exposure, particularly in the presence of nicotine, negatively affects the lung health of mice and highlights the need for greater public awareness surrounding the dangers of third-hand exposure to e-cigarette vapour.

The term TFN and claims about its properties can mislead consumers about the harms and addictiveness of TFN e-cigarettes, which may increase initiation of these products among non-smokers or influence current smokers’decisions to adopt TFN e-cigarettes as a harm reduction measure.
Methods
We conducted an observational, cross-sectional survey of 777 adolesc aged 13 to 17 and 655 current adult cigarette smokers residing in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont about their TFN e-cigarette awareness, use, perceptions, and susceptibility. We examined the association between prior awareness of TFN and use, perceptions, and susceptibility.
Results
One-third of adolescents and adults reported being aware of TFN. TFN e-cigarette use was less common than tobacco-derived nicotine (TDN) e-cigarette use among adolescents (8.9%vs. 30.5%) and adults (21.1% vs. 79.4%). Compared to unaware adolescents, adolescents who were aware of TFN more frequently reported being more likely to use TFN compared to TDN ecigarettes and that TFN e-cigarettes are more addictive than those containing TDN. Given the increasing use of e-cigarettes and other nicotine products, it appears essential to clarify this issue. We studied extracts
from cigarette smoke (CSE) and vapor from e-cigarettes (EVE) and heated tobacco (HTE) for their effects on vascular relaxation, endothelial nitric oxide signaling, and the activity of soluble guanylyl cyclase. The average nicotine concentrations of CSE, EVE, and HTE were 164, 800, and 85 μM,
respectively. At a dilution of 1:3, CSE almost entirely inhibited the relaxation of rat aortas and porcine coronary arteries to acetylcholine and bradykinin, respectively, while undiluted EVE, with a 15-fold higher nicotine concentration, had no significant effect. With about 50% inhibition at 1:2 dilution,
the effect of HTE was between CSE and EVE. Neither extract affected endothelium-independent relaxation to an NO donor. At the dilutions tested, CSE was not toxic to cultured endothelial cells but, in contrast to EVE, impaired NO signaling and inhibited NO stimulation of soluble guanylyl cyclase. Our results demonstrate that nicotine does not mediate the impaired endothelium-dependent vascular relaxation caused by smoking.
