In this paper, we use images we collected in Great Britain between 2021 and 2023, along with a social media scan of Instagram and TikTok in 2023 to analyse the marketing strategies of these pouches on three key marketing channels — online media, sports sponsorships, and out-of-home advertising. Findings reveal the extensive use of visually appealing content, influencer partnerships, and event sponsorships that are potentially targeting young and naive audiences. Despite this, survey data indicates that nicotine pouch use in Great Britain remains minimal. However, a notable shift in public health impact could arise if these marketing efforts start to bear more fruit. The study underscores the need for balanced policy measures that increase access to reduced harm alternatives for existing tobacco and nicotine users while minimising exposure to youth and non-users. Continuous monitoring and regulatory adjustments are essential to address the evolving landscape of nicotine pouch marketing Permalink : https://biblio.fares.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10174 Aucun avis, veuillez vous identifier pour ajouter le vôtre !

[TABAC] tabagisme:effet du tabac:effet sur l'immunitéIndex. décimale : TA 3.2.2.2.1 Interactions avec d'autres facteurs pathogènes Résumé : The cholinergic nervous system can inhibit the systemic inflammation accompanying sepsis by virtue of a specific action of acetylcholine on alpha7 cholinergic receptors. The current authors sought to determine the effect of nicotine, an alpha7 cholinergic receptor agonist, on the host response to pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. Mice were intranasally infected with S. pneumoniae and treated with nicotine or saline intraperitoneally using a treatment schedule shown to improve host defence against abdominal sepsis. Nicotine treatment was associated with a transiently enhanced growth of S. pneumoniae, as indicated by higher bacterial loads in both lungs and blood at 24 h after infection. At 48 h after infection, bacterial burdens had increased in both treatment groups and differences were no longer present. Remarkably, mice treated with nicotine showed enhanced lung inflammation at 24 h after infection. Moreover, both lung and plasma concentrations of the pro-inflammatory cytokines tumour necrosis factor-alpha and interferon-gamma were higher in nicotine-treated animals at this time-point. Additional studies examining the effect of nicotine on the immediate (4-h) inflammatory response to S. pneumoniae did not reveal an anti-inflammatory effect of nicotine either. The present data suggest that nicotine transiently impairs host defence in pneumococcal pneumonia. [TABAC] tabagisme:aspect psychologique:comportement:addictionIndex. décimale : TA 1 Constituants du tabac Résumé : Background
Nicotine is known as the drug that is responsible for the addicted behaviour of tobacco users, but it has poor reinforcing effects when administered alone. Tobacco product design features enhance abuse liability by (A) optimising the dynamic delivery of nicotine to central nervous system receptors, and affecting smokers’ withdrawal symptoms, mood and behaviour; and (B) effecting conditioned learning, through sensory cues, including aroma, touch and visual stimulation, to create perceptions of pending nicotine reward. This study examines the use of additives called ‘pyrazines’, which may enhance abuse potential, their introduction in ‘lights’ and subsequently in the highly market successful Marlboro Lights (Gold) cigarettes and eventually many major brands.
Methods
We conducted internal tobacco industry research using online databases in conjunction with published scientific literature research, based on an iterative feedback process.
Results
Tobacco manufacturers developed the use of a range of compounds, including pyrazines, in order to enhance ‘light’ cigarette products’ acceptance and sales. Pyrazines with chemosensory and pharmacological effects were incorporated in the first ‘full-flavour, low-tar’ product achieving high market success. Such additives may enhance dependence by helping to optimise nicotine delivery and dosing and through cueing and learned behaviour.
Conclusions
Cigarette additives and ingredients with chemosensory effects that promote addiction by acting synergistically with nicotine, increasing product appeal, easing smoking initiation, discouraging cessation or promoting relapse should be regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration. Current models of tobacco abuse liability could be revised to include more explicit roles with regard to non-nicotine constituents that enhance abuse potential.

lthough the popularity of small cigar brands that resemble cigarettes, including both little cigars (LC) and filtered cigars (FC), has been on the rise, little is known about the delivery
of nicotine from these products. Our objective was to determine the nicotine yields of small cigars in comparison to cigarettes.
Methods:
Nicotine yields from LC, FC, and 3R4F and 1R6F research cigarettes were determined from mainstream smoke generated on a smoking machine under the International Organization of
Standardization (ISO) and Canadian Intense (CI) methods. Market characteristics (price and package label) and physical features (filter ventilation, product weight and filter weight, product length, and diameter) were also determined for eight brands of small cigars.
Results:
Nicotine yields in small cigars averaged 1.24 and 3.49 mg/unit on ISO and CI regimens, respectively, compared with 0.73 and 2.35 mg/unit, respectively, for the research cigarettes.
Nicotine yields per puff were similar between small cigars and cigarettes. We also found that FC did not differ from LC in nicotine yields. FC and LC differ from each other in many physical design features (unit weight, filter weight, and filter length), but are similar in others (unit length, diameter,
and filter ventilation).
Conclusions:
Nicotine delivery from small cigars is similar to or greater than that from cigarettes. Thus, for future research and regulatory purposes, standard definitions need to be developed for
small cigars, and FC and LC should be evaluated as separate entities. Implications: Small cigars are similar to cigarettes in their design and use. Although nicotine yields
per puff were similar between products, small cigars delivered substantially higher amounts of nicotine per unit than cigarettes. These findings support the growing body of evidence to justify regulating all small cigars, including LC and FC in a similar fashion as cigarettesEn ligne : https://doi.org/10.1093/ntr/ntx220 Format de la ressource électronique : Article en ligne Permalink : https://biblio.fares.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=9707 Aucun avis, veuillez vous identifier pour ajouter le vôtre !
